I'm making an XY system and am using the XY Plot as a model. Where does the teflon-strip-0.5x0.125 go?
It's the pad for the belt clamp: http://www.contraptor.org/make-belt-clamp
That's true, in fact, if I were using open belts, I'd probably use UHMWPE belt pad to hold two ends in place - I think Teflon may be too soft for it. I think the choice of Teflon for belt pads is because it's a lot easier to carve the grooves in it
I was thinking of slicing off a 3/8th piece of rod and putting it between two grooves in the belt. Then the tightening bolt would press the rod against the outer part of the belt which contains the tensile materials.
Also I was thinking of having two belt clamps for each belt. Perhaps one be attached to the sliding element in a way that it can tighten the belt when a bolt is turned.
I suppose if the 3/8th rod doesn't have enough contact area with the belt and causes stress, I'll use more than one and slip a piece of metal between them and bolt.
Does that sound promising or am I out to lunch?
